Drivers Personal Injury Insurance

Unfortunately, even safe, experienced drivers have accidents and become injured so do you really think that personal injury protection is a waste of time. Most people also have other responsibilities; those of a financial nature and family members that will need to be provided for. For people with families it is better they try to incorporate personal injury protection or Pip into an existing health insurance plan if it will allow. This all sounds great in theory but insurance of any kind is expensive and this can be just another costly addition to the family budget.

It is often the case that it was arranged without the full range of cover looked at so may be inappropriate to the needs of the customer. In America personal injury is now a required form of insurance cover in many states although the amount does vary depending where you are in the USA. Throughout most parts of America today, injury insurance has become required by law but the cover required seems to vary considerably from state to state. This is best given by example: people living in Alaska will need ten times the amount of protection that people in Florida do! Although there are still some states that have not passed a law on personal injury protection at this time, there is no reason why you should wait until it has before you arrange it.

The cover will pay around 80 percent (depending on the plan) of the costs of the insured and passengers. As a no fault policy though, the plan pays for loss of earnings, medical expenses and various other costs for the policy holder and his passengers even if the insured was responsible for the situation. Some plans will cover some if not all these aspects and it is worth checking these fully before any additional insurance plans are started. It is quite common for certain aspects like hospital bills and possibly a percentage of lost income to be covered by a family health insurance policy.

If this is the case, then you may need minimal amount of coverage or even none at all. Your driving record can also be a contributing factor when considering whether or not you actually require personal injury protection. Health insurance plans will often cover the main policy holder as the driver and providing the passengers are relatives, it will usually cover them as well if they are injured.

So if your personal injury protection policy does not cover your passengers, it is your responsibility to ensure they are protected. It is not unfair to assume that any person traveling in your vehicle should be the responsibility of the driver and insured individual. Ensuring you have adequate personal injury protection if you are a driver should not just be about the legal requirement for you to have it, even if you are in a state that has not made it mandatory yet. Your personal circumstances will dictate just how much insurance you need so the better your health is and the less claims you have made, will help to reduce the policy costs overall. On the other hand, when you are young and just starting out and probably don’t have much in the way of health and liability insurance, you will want to protect yourself, your family and your future by carrying as much insurance as you can afford. Irrespective of your personal situation, thorough research in this complicated area is a necessity if you want to have a safe and enjoyable driving future without financial worries if something untoward happens.
